Wondering what the average life expectancy is for tires and brakes on an ‘05 Pacifica?

Kathleen K asked:

I have a 2005 Pacifica - 38,000 miles - and have not yet changed the tires or brakes. What’s the general rule of thumb for life expectancy on tires and brakes? I think I’m pushing it??

Depends entirely on what you have it fitted with. Metallic brake pads? Semi-metallic? Ceramic? What load range and quality on the tires, and how aggressively do you drive?

What about maintenance? Do you rotate the tires when you should?

Best answer I’ve seen to this question went something like this in a vehicle discussion board:

depends on how you drive…my wife’s mustang (driven like a granny) still has the original pads on it at 60K miles. My SHO would eat up pads about every 15K miles.

So, this is one of those “How long is a piece of string?” questions. What matters is, how long is it for you?

If you were able to use your original tires 40,000 miles you have done an exceptional job driving your car. Look at your tread wear bars that rum perpendicular to the circumference of the tire. The wear bars are the little raised humps between the tread bars. If the tread bars are even with the wear bars the tires need to be replaced.

As for brakes change the pads now with Wagner Quiet Stop pads. The reason is: If the pads wear to the wear warning scrapers and you fail to hear them your pads can wear into the steel backing plates ruining the brake rotors.

I have a 04 Pacifica with 40k and the brakes squeak a little but the inspection show that they are still good. My tires are getting worn down and I’m replacing them in the Summer.
